Purpose
The Review was founded in Trinity Term 2025 by students who had just finished Law Moderations and wanted somewhere to develop ideas from their tutorials that the syllabus left no room for.
They found that undergraduate legal writing tended to end up in one of two places: informal blogs offering short commentary, or highly selective journals whose standards can put off first-time authors. The Review was set up to bridge that gap, and to publish work that is “rigorous and intellectually ambitious, while remaining open and accessible” to students writing for publication for the first time.
History
The Review succeeds Verdict, the Oxford Law Society’s magazine of student writing, whose issues from 2016 to 2019 are preserved in our archive. Our first issue, covering Michaelmas 2025 and Hilary 2026, opened with a foreword by the Rt Hon Lord Justice Dingemans, Senior President of Tribunals.

We are grateful to 3 Hare Court for sponsoring the 3 Hare Court Oxford Undergraduate Law & Policy Review Prize, awarded for the best submission to our first issue.
